As the weather gets hotter, babies drink water more frequently. Have mothers started to choose new cups for their babies?
As the saying goes, “If you want to do your job well, you must first sharpen your tools.” Babies are smart little kids, so water bottles must be easy to use and look good, so that they will be willing to drink more water.
Plastic water cups are cute, lightweight, easy to carry, and not easy to break. They are probably the number one choice for mothers, but are the plastic water cups you choose really safe? You must see this place clearly to judge, it is – the bottom of the bottle!
Whether plastic water cups are safe or not, the core influencing factor is the material. The easiest way to identify the plastic material is to look at the plastic identification number on the bottom of the bottle.
Below I will give you a detailed introduction to 3 types of plastic materials that are the most common and safe on the market:
Choose a water cup for your baby
You can rest assured if these 3 materials are used
PP material: the most common, safe material, lower price
PP is currently the most common water cup material. It has three main advantages:
● Material safety: only a few auxiliary materials are used in production and processing, so there is no need to worry about the leakage of harmful substances;
● High temperature resistance: resistant to high temperatures of 100℃, no deformation below 140℃;
● Not easy to fade: The material itself can be shaped into a variety of colors and is not easy to fade. If there is a pattern on the cup body, you don’t have to worry about fading or deformation even if it is sterilized at high temperature.
Of course, it also has two shortcomings:
● It is easy to age under ultraviolet irradiation: so it is not suitable for disinfection with ultraviolet disinfection cabinet. It is best to put it in the bag when going out.
● Can’t bear bumps: If the cup accidentally falls to the ground, the cup is likely to crack or break. Babies in the oral stage may bite it and swallow plastic debris, so mothers who buy this type of cup should pay attention to their babies. Don’t chew the cup.
For cups made of PP material, the plastic identification number on the bottom of the bottle is “5″. In addition to looking for “5″, it would be better if the bottom of the cup is also marked with “BPA-free” and “BPA-free”. This cup is safer and does not contain bisphenol A, which is harmful to health.
Tritan: good-looking, more durable, affordable
Tritan is also the mainstream material for water cups now. Compared with PP material, the advantages of Tritan are mainly reflected in:
● Higher transparency: Therefore, the cup is very transparent and beautiful, and it is also convenient for mothers to see clearly the amount and quality of water in the cup.
● Higher strength: Resistant to bumps and not easy to age. Even if the baby accidentally falls to the ground, it is not fragile. You don’t have to worry about aging due to sunlight when you go out and play.
However, it also has a fly in the ointment. Although the heat resistance of Tritan has been improved, the heat resistance temperature is between 94 and 109 ℃. It is no problem to hold boiling water, but it may still deform when placed in a microwave oven or sterilized with superheated steam. , so pay special attention to disinfection methods
The plastic logo made of Tritan is very easy to identify. A triangle + the words TRITAN are very eye-catching!
PPSU: the safest, most durable, and the most expensive:
Mothers who have bought baby bottles know that PPSU material is often used in baby bottles because this material is relatively the safest. It can even be said that PPSU is almost an all-purpose plastic material:
● Strong anti-corrosion and hydrolysis resistance: daily filling of hot water and milk powder are basic operations. Even if mothers use it to hold some acidic juices and drinks, it will not be affected.
● The hardness is high enough and it is not afraid of bumps at all: it will not be damaged by daily bumps and bumps, and it will still be intact even if dropped from a height.
● It has very good heat resistance and will not deform even at high temperatures of 200°C: boiling, steam sterilization, and ultraviolet sterilization are all OK, and the excipients it uses are relatively safe, so you don’t have to worry about harmful substances being released at high temperatures and harming your baby’s health.
If you have to find a disadvantage for PPUS, there may only be one – it’s expensive! After all, good stuff isn’t cheap~
The PPSU material is also very easy to identify. A triangle has a line of small characters >PPSU<.
n addition to the material, when choosing a good water cup for your baby, you must also consider factors such as sealing, anti-choking performance, and ease of cleaning. It sounds simple, but the choice is quite complicated.
