Countdown to the Paris Olympics! Using “recycled plastic” as a podium?

The Paris Olympics are underway! This is the third time in Paris’ history that it has hosted the Olympic Games. The last time was a full century ago in 1924! So, in Paris in 2024, how will French romance shock the world again? Today I’ll take stock of it for you, let’s get into the atmosphere of the Paris Olympics together~
What color is the runway in your impression? red? blue?

This year’s Olympic venues used purple as the track in a unique way. The manufacturer, Italian company Mondo, said that this kind of track not only helps athletes perform better, but is also more environmentally friendly than the tracks of previous Olympic Games.

Purple

It is reported that Mondo’s R&D department studied dozens of samples and finally finalized the “appropriate color”. The ingredients of the new runway include synthetic rubber, natural rubber, mineral ingredients, pigments and additives, about 50% of which are made of recycled or renewable materials. In comparison, the environmentally friendly proportion of the track and field track used at the 2012 London Olympics was approximately 30%.

The new runway supplied by Mondo to the Paris Olympics has a total area of 21,000 square meters and includes two shades of purple. Among them, light purple, which is close to the color of lavender, is used for track events, jumping and throwing competition areas; dark purple is used for technical areas outside the track; the track line and the outer edge of the track are filled with gray.

Alain Blondel, head of track and field events at the Paris Olympics and retired French decathlete, said: “When shooting TV pictures, the two shades of purple can maximize the contrast and highlight the athletes.”

Eco-friendly seats:
Made from recyclable plastic waste

According to CCTV Finance, some 11,000 environmentally friendly seats were installed in some stadiums of the Paris Olympic Games.

They are provided by a French ecological construction company, which uses thermal compression and other technologies to convert hundreds of tons of renewable plastic into boards and finally make seats.

The person in charge of a French ecological construction company said that the company obtains (recyclable plastics) from different recyclers and cooperates with more than 50 recyclers. They are responsible for collecting garbage and classifying (recycled materials).

These recyclers will clean and crush plastic waste, which will then be transported to factories in the form of pellets or fragments to be made into environmentally friendly seats.

Olympic podium: made of wood, recycled plastic
100% recyclable

The podium design of this Olympic Games is inspired by the metal grid structure of the Eiffel Tower. The main colors are gray and white, using wood and 100% recycled plastic. The recycled plastic mainly comes from shampoo bottles and colored bottle caps.
And the podium can adapt to the needs of different competitions through its modular and innovative design.
Anta:
Used plastic bottles are recycled into award-winning uniforms for Chinese athletes

ANTA teamed up with the Chinese Olympic Committee to launch an environmental protection campaign and formed a special team. Composed of Olympic champions, media and outdoor enthusiasts, they walked through the mountains and forests, looking for every missing plastic bottle.

Through green recycling technology, some plastic bottles will be regenerated into a medal-winning uniform for Chinese athletes that can appear at the Paris Olympics. This is the large-scale environmental protection activity launched by Anta – the Mountain and River Project.

Promote reusable water cups,
Expected to reduce 400,000 plastic bottle pollution

In addition to cross-border recycling of discarded plastic bottles, plastic reduction is also an important carbon reduction measure for the Paris Olympics. The organizing committee for the Paris Olympics has announced plans to host a sports event that will be free of single-use plastics.

The organizing committee of the National Marathon held during the Olympic Games provided reusable cups to participants. This measure is expected to reduce the use of 400,000 plastic bottles. In addition, at all competition venues, officials will provide the public with three options: recycled plastic bottles, recycled glass bottles, and drinking fountains providing soda water.
