Can plastic molds be used for processing different materials?

The processing technology of plastic water cups is usually injection molding and blow molding. The blow molding process is also called the bottle blowing process. Since there are many plastic materials for producing water cups, there are AS, PS, PP, PC, ABS, PPSU, TRITAN, etc. When controlling costs, many manufacturers and water cup buyers all think about whether they can use the same mold to process all plastic materials. Is this possible? If it can be achieved, will the finished product have the same effect?

So let’s talk about it separately. In the injection molding process, the commonly used materials are AS, ABS, PP, and TRITAN. According to the characteristics of the material and the changes that occur during production, AS and ABS can be shared in the same mold, but PP and TRITAN cannot share the same mold during injection molding. At the same time, the mold can also be shared with AS and ABS. The shrinkage rates of these materials are different, especially the high shrinkage rate of PP materials. Coupled with the production method of injection molding process, plastic materials rarely share molds.

In the bottle blowing process, AS and PC production can share molds, and the products produced have very similar performance. However, PPSU and TRITAN cannot share molds because the two materials are very different. PPSU will be relatively soft to other material properties, so the same bottle blowing mold cannot be used for PPSU materials once it is used with AS material. use. TRITAN material is relatively hard compared to other materials. The same reason applies. Molds suitable for bottle blowing of other materials are not suitable for it.

However, in order to save costs, there are also water cup factories that share bottle blowing molds for AS, PC, and TRITAN, but the products produced are really unsatisfactory. This will not be evaluated.
